The first step simply involves turning your laptop into a Bluetooth receiver by using its built-in software. Next, pair the headphones with your computer's computer via Bluetooth. This can be done in one of two ways. In the case of old-school headphones that simply have a headphone jack, you'll need to plug them in to your laptop and turn them on. Bluetooth should then connect immediately. If the headphones are set to unpair, they'll need to be turned on and then connected again (if they haven't already been connected).

I personally use two pairs of Bose QuietComfort 35 II in my laptop, which are my favorite headphones for anything from extended gaming sessions to listening to music or watching movies on a flight - I've had them for about five years now and love them. To pair the headphone with your laptop, plug them in and turn on the headphones. Then wait up to a minute or so for them to connect.

Once they are paired, you'll be asked if you'd like to send the audio signal from your laptop's speakers directly to the headphones. If you choose 'yes', you'll be greeted with a message on your screen telling you what device is connected and letting you know that both devices should now be playing sound from each other (if they weren't already).

If at any point in this process there is an issue with any of the two devices, or if one device cannot hear anything on the other, simply turn off one of them and try again. A quick restart of your computer should reset the issue if it's related to a software problem.

To turn off one of the headphones, simply press the power button and then hold it down until the music stops playing. The device will be turned off and unpaired in order to prevent interference with any other devices on your laptop (like Bluetooth headsets). You'll want to do this periodically just so they can maintain Bluetooth connection while they aren't in use.
